A Strong Partnership: United Federal Credit Union

Meet Alysa Snell, Market Vice President for Indiana of United Federal Credit Union. Kelly Cares is a proud partner of United Federal Credit Union

What is your name and position at United Federal Credit Union (UFCU)?

Alysa Snell, Market Vice President for Indiana.

Why did UFCU decide to partner with the Kelly Cares Foundation (KCF)?

We look for partners who share the values and goals of our employees and our Members. So when a partnership opportunity with the Kelly Cares Foundation became available, we knew it would be a perfect fit. We both aim to strengthen our communities, we listen to the needs and concerns of others, and most importantly we're both about people helping people.  Leading with service is what makes United and the Kelly Cares Foundation such a strong partnership.

How do United's and Kelly Cares' missions align?

Sometimes finances can be stressful. That's why we work with our Members to help them improve their financial well-being as well as their overall well-being. When we make a difference in their future, it inspires them to make a difference in other people's lives and in the success of our community. This aligns so well with the Kelly Cares Foundation—the idea that we can provide hope through inspiration and invest our time and talents into making the lives of our friends and neighbors better. At the end of the day, we're all about elevating the quality of life for the people in our community, and we're proud to serve when called.

Talk about your breast cancer initiative this month. What are you doing and why?

We are so proud of the enthusiasm shown by our employees and Members during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Unfortunately, breast cancer is something that touches us all. We all know someone whose life has been affected by this devastating disease.  But at United we fight back with a warrior's spirit and compassionate hearts. We're helping to raise awareness with our employees, our Members, and our communities through a number of events:

Wear Pink Day – On October 1—We gave pink wristbands to our employees and encouraged Team United to Wear Pink to launch Breast Cancer Awareness month. It was a wonderful celebration of our continued partnership with the Kelly Cares Foundation. We are also giving away the pink wristbands at our Edison Lakes and Ireland Road branches throughout the month, so please stop by and show your support.

Ready?  Set?  Go Pink!—Within United, we're running the Ready? Set? Go Pink? competition for best decorated office/department, branch, and self. This is a serious pink out!  In addition to fabulous prizes, there are bragging rights at stake. Our team goes all out to raise awareness in October.

I Wear Pink for…--In our lobbies at Edison Lakes and Ireland Road, we are asking Members to write the name of the individual(s) they wear pink for on a ribbon and pin it to a dress form to complete her skirt. It's generated interest and conversation, and has been a very moving community initiative.

Light it Pink—As another show of support, the exterior lighting at our Edison Lakes and Ireland Road branches have been turned pink. It's a unique way to draw attention to this important cause,  start a conversation, and continue to show our support.

Kelly Cares and UFCU are both committed to strengthening the greater South Bend community. Why do you believe this is important?

Having a strong community is incredibly important—both in our personal lives and in our neighborhoods. At United, we support causes that truly make a difference in people's lives. We strive to practice the three pillars of giving:  revitalizing and stabilizing the health of our neighborhoods, ensuring our youth has the best tools to succeed, and focusing on basic and critical needs of families.

When you have a strong community and are around people who are looking out for your best interest, there's so much that can be accomplished and so much hope that can be generated for the future.

What is your favorite Paqui's Playbook event and why?

It's so hard to pick one favorite event. Not only because they are so unique, but also because at each one you really connect with people in new ways. You hear the stories of survivors, the memories of loved ones, and the passion we all share to keep fighting cancer. It's so inspiring to be part of it all!
